IPTA Seeking Student Applications to Attend APTA Federal Affairs Forum

Iowa Physical Therapy Association (IPTA) is seeking to promote greater physical therapist student understanding and involvement in legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of the physical therapy profession through collaboration with policymakers and other health care professionals. Part of this effort includes IPTA sponsoring one (1) physical therapist or physical therapist assistant student per year to attend APTA’s 2-day Federal Affairs Forum (FAF). Student Responsibility:
Pre-Conference Essay
• Topic: “My Experience and Involvement as a Physical Therapist Advocate”
• Essay submission along with resume detailing activity within APTA, advocacy efforts, etc.
• Deadline for submission: Monday, January 6, 2020 (email all documents to mail@iowaapta.org)
•Selected student will be notified by IPTA beginning of February

Conference Expectations
• Attend FAF conference, break-out sessions and legislative advocacy training sessions
• Attend scheduled meetings with Iowa Senators and Representatives
• Mentor under IPTA member attendee throughout FAF conference
•A ssist with writing thank you cards/notes following Congressional meetings 

Post Conference Presentation/Expectations
• Present FAF summary to attending physical therapy and/or physical therapy assistant program; open to professors, students, IPTA members
• Send presentation recording, or written summary if recording not available, to IPTA Board of Directors
• Collaborate with IPTA member attendee(s) to develop post-conference soundbites for IPTA communication/social media
