Marcie L Becker. DPT, GCS

Dr. Marcie Becker is a 2001 graduate of Creighton University, a board-certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist, and an acute care physical therapist at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. Over the past 25 years, she has practiced in diverse settings including acute inpatient rehabilitation, home health, critical access hospitals, and senior living communities. Her clinical experience spans both urban and rural Iowa and includes full-time, part-time, and weekend practice roles.  These experiences have shaped her understanding of the evolving healthcare system and the challenges of balancing a meaningful career while loving a growing family.  

She began teaching at the University of Iowa in 2011, and currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Co-Director of Clinical Education. Her scholarship focuses on enhancing the clinical education environment through effective supervision, mentorship, and learning strategies that support the development of competent, reflective, and patient-centered physical therapists. She is a wife, community volunteer, and mom of four kiddos ranging in age from 21 to 8 years old.

Patrick McCue, DPT 

Patrick McCue, DPT is a Clinical Assistant Professor and co-director of clinical education in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. As a clinician, he practices in acute care. Patrick combines academic teaching with experience as a clinician and clinical instructor. His scholarly work has contributed to research in neuromuscular rehabilitation, exercise physiology, and metabolic health. 

Andy Phillips, PT, DPT

is a Clinical Supervisor in the Department of Rehabilitation Therapies at University of Iowa Health Care. He provides leadership for inpatient rehabilitation services while maintaining a focus on acute care practice, clinical education, and quality improvement initiatives. His interests include patient mobility, interdisciplinary collaboration, workforce development, and strategies to improve hospital outcomes and length of stay.

Dr. Shannon Matasovsky, PT, CMT 

Dr. Shannon Matasovsky, PT, CMT is a sports performance, orthopedic, and pelvic floor physical therapist and the owner of Believe Physical Therapy & Performance. She primarily works with active and motivated adults and high school athletes, though she will happily treat anyone who walks through her doors. Dr. Shannon is passionate about bridging the gap between pain/injury and performance. Her goal is to meet people where they are at in their rehabilitation journey, keep them active as they work through their pain, pregnancy, and postpartum journey, and help them get back to doing what they love. She is certified in Functional Dry Needling and has Certifications in Manual Therapy through St. Ambrose University and Pelvic Floor Therapy through the Institute of Clinical Excellence. Dr. Shannon is Adjunct Faculty with the University of Iowa DPT program and is passionate about educating both future clinicians, as well as her patients. 

Annie Fangman PT, DPT

Annie Fangman PT, DPT, is a board-certified neurologic physical therapist that is residency trained with over a decade of experience specializing in complex neurological and vestibular rehabilitation. She has taken part in both research and academia throughout her career. Currently, she is a Physical Therapist Supervisor at the University of Iowa Hospital for adult inpatient units. In this dual role, she splits her time between clinical care and administrative leadership—supervising 25 direct reports across several critical care units including cardiac, respiratory, and neurological. Clinically, Annie remains actively involved in the Surgical and Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (SNICU) and the neurological step-down floor, providing expert care to patients with complex neurologic conditions. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) , the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy (ANPT), and APTA Iowa. 

Jake Raecker, DPT

Jake earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and following graduation, he completed a geriatric physical therapy residency at the Mayo Clinic and is board certified in geriatric physical therapy. With experience treating older adults across a variety of settings, Jake has worked with those facing critical illnesses in intensive care units, individuals with cognitive impairments, as well as highly active adults pursuing advanced fitness and performance goals. Jake’s approach to physical therapy is rooted in a questioning of the current aging experience, evidence based practice, and the belief that stronger older adults make stronger communities.

Abby Erion PT, DPT, SCS

Abby received her undergraduate degree in Sports Science from Loras College in 2007 and her Doctor of Physical Therapy from University of Iowa in 2009. She went on to complete the University of Evansville/ProRehab, PC Sports Residency in 2013 and received her Certification in Sports Physical Therapy shortly after. Over the course of her career, Abby has had the opportunity to work with people across the lifespan ranging from 4-99 years old in many aspects of patient care including sports on and off of the field, orthopedics and neurological including stroke and concussion. She has had the opportunity to work with athletes from a pediatric setting through a professional setting and has continued to evolve over her practice with the goal to never settle and always get better.

Micah Wong

Micah Wong is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and credentialed musculoskeletal sonographer (RMSK, APCA) currently pursuing a PhD in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Iowa under the mentorship of Dr. Ruth Chimenti. Before returning to academia, he spent four and a half years in clinical practice as an embedded primary care physical therapist, where diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound was a central tool in his patient care. His clinical work has informed published research in primary care physical therapy practice and Achilles tendon exercise interventions. This foundation shaped a focused research interest in the mechanical properties of tendon/fascia and pain management in the foot and ankle. His current work leverages quantitative imaging techniques, including shear wave elastography, to better understand tissue behavior and inform clinical decision-making in chronic musculoskeletal conditions. He previously served on the Oregon Physical Therapy Association legislative committee and was the communications chair for the APTA Federal Section’s Primary Care SIG.

Andrew Broderick

Andrew is a Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapist with a strong background sport science and technology applications. His experience spans outpatient rehabilitation, collegiate athletics, and professional sports; giving him a unique perspective on clinical and performance demands practitioners face across settings. He has published research in ACL rehabilitation and regularly serves as an educator in the lower extremity rehab space. Andrew is passionate about supporting practitioners as they integrate technology into their systems to drive data-informed decision-making.

Carla Franck, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT

Carla Franck graduated from the University of Iowa and received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2009.  She then completed the Creighton University Orthopedic Residency Program in July 2013 and most recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago Fellowship in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy in July 2015.  Carla is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.  She has worked in various orthopedic clinics across the United States.  Carla participates in continuing education programming and mentorship.

Mike Boykin, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS

Mike Boykin, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS, joined Carle Health and the University of Illinois Athletics Department in August 2025 as a physical therapist and Rehabilitation Coordinator. He plans and coordinates rehabilitation programs for student-athletes across all Olympic sports and sees patients at the ARC on campus.Before coming to Illinois, Mike completed a sports physical therapy residency at the University of Miami, where he worked directly with several athletic teams. He previously practiced at University of Iowa Sports Medicine and at CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center in Boulder, Colorado, where he also volunteered as a track and field coach. Earlier in his career, he coached sprints and hurdles at ALTIS, a training center for professional track and field athletes. As a strength and conditioning coach, he has worked with athletes from youth through professional levels.

Mike holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Iowa and a B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is a Sports Certified Specialist, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), and a Sprint, Hurdle & Relay Event Specialist through the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
